The Rotary Club of East Montgomery County welcomed Deborah Saulsbury as the guest speaker at its June 2 luncheon.
Saulsbury shared information about the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County, a nonpartisan, grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering voters and defending democracy. Founded more than 100 years ago following the women's suffrage movement of 1920, the League works to encourage informed and active participation in government through voter education, advocacy, community engagement, and outreach.
During her presentation, Saulsbury explained that the League neither supports nor opposes political candidates or parties at any level of government. Instead, the organization focuses on providing factual, evidence-based information and advocating for policies that strengthen democratic participation and informed civic engagement.
Rotary members appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the League's mission and its efforts to ensure that all citizens have the resources and information needed to participate fully in the democratic process.
