The Rotary Club of East Montgomery County held its March 17 luncheon on St. Patrick's Day, making it the perfect occasion to welcome guest speaker Wayne Johnson from the Montgomery County Historical Society. Johnson shared an engaging presentation on Irish immigration into Texas and the role Irish settlers played in shaping Montgomery County.
During his presentation, Johnson highlighted the stories of several notable figures connected to Irish immigration and early Texas history. He discussed John McMullen and James McGloin, who helped bring Irish settlers to Texas in the early 1800s. Their efforts created opportunities for many Irish families seeking a new life in the region.
Johnson also shared information about early Montgomery County leaders such as Jacob Shannon and Jesse Grimes, whose contributions helped shape the government, development, and communities of early Texas.
