Professional Genealogist Cecily Kelly provided the Rotary Club of East Montgomery County (RCEMC) members real insight into discovering their family’s heritage. Ms. Kelly presented information on the use of DNA testing to determine relationships between individuals, find genetic matches, and discover one's ancestry. She described the differences of Y-DNA (a man's patrilineal or direct father's-line ancestry), mtDNA (traces a person's matrilineal or mother-line ancestry), and the most commonly tested atDNA (autosomal DNA refers to the twenty-two pairs of chromosomes, called autosomes, in the nucleus of the cell.)

In addition to being a professional genealogist, Ms. Kelly is also a registrar of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Coushatti Trace Chaper), member of the Rotary Club of Conroe, and Assistant Governor of Rotary District 5910.

RCEMC showed their appreciation for Ms. Kelly by donating the book, “Sisters and Champions: The True Story of Venus and Serena Williams” by Howard Bryant to Splendora ISD’s Timber Lakes Elementary school.
