Over the past several weeks, the Rotary Club of East Montgomery County has been privileged to hear from some great speakers both virtually and in-person.

On November 3, Mark Linabury, Greater EMC Chamber President was the Rotary Club’s speaker. The Greater EMC Chamber passed their 30th anniversary in June, marking three decades of work in bringing together a broad area of businesses experiencing rapid growth. The Chamber supports an area, reaching the front of Kingwood to Grangerland, covering Montgomery County as well as unincorporated land. Linabury, said they had planned an exciting year, but plans were interrupted by the pandemic; however, Linabury shared what upcoming events the Chamber has planned. Linabury has been the Chamber President for just over a year.

The next week, REMC members were treated to a presentation from Andy Pearson of Moorhead’s Blueberry Farm. Moorehead’s is the oldest you-pick blueberry farm in Texas. The season runs about six weeks, from around Memorial Day to around July 4. Visit their website moorheadsblueberryfarm.com for more information.

On November 17, REMC President Rob Burgess reminded Rotarians of their mission. Rotary is dedicated to causes that build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever. Burgess presented “Dare to Dream” - a documentary of Rotary’s history to eradicate polio.

The first Tuesday in December, East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID) President and CEO Frank McCrady shared all the great happenings in the area. McCrady shared the new businesses coming into the area and how despite the pandemic, EMCID still saw growth. EMCID as a taxing authority (sales tax) within its boundaries to develop and encourage economic and community development and to promote educational opportunities to residents in the eastern area of Montgomery County.

For their final meeting of 2020, Rotarians heard from Chris Neil, Public Relations Director of the Grand Parkway System. Neil informed and presented updates of segments H and I-1. State Highway 99 (the Grand Parkway) is a 180+ mile circumferential highway traversing seven counties in the Greater Houston area. Conceptualized in the early 1960s, it is divided into 11 segments designated A through I-2. For more information visit sh99grandpkwy.com.
