The Rotary Club of East Montgomery County is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our President-Elect, John Burgess IV, his beloved wife Julia, and their two young sons, Jack and James, who passed away on July 4, 2025, after being caught in devastating floods in Kerr County.

John and Julia’s lives were defined by love, service, and devotion to their family, faith, and community. Married for 14 years, they built a beautiful life together, raising three children. Their eldest daughter, Jenna, now 8, survives her parents and brothers and remains in the prayers of our entire Rotary family.

John was known for his joyful spirit, booming laugh, and unwavering compassion. Professionally, he was a licensed funeral director and later a financial advisor, opening his own Edward Jones branch in Porter in 2023. He dedicated his life to serving others, whether supporting families in their darkest hours of grief or guiding them toward financial stability and well-being. In Rotary, he embodied the principle of Service Above Self, offering his time and leadership as he prepared to step into the role of Club President.

Julia, a lifelong educator, touched the lives of countless students through her work in the classroom, on the volleyball court, and as coach of the Liberty Prancers dance team. Her strength, grace, and warmth inspired all who knew her, especially as she triumphed over breast cancer with resilience and faith.

Their sons, Jack (5) and James (21 months), were bright lights of joy in the Burgess family. The Burgess family’s legacy is one of love, service, and faith. They welcomed everyone as friends, filled rooms with laughter, and modeled what it means to live with compassion and generosity.

To honor their memory and support Jenna’s future, a trust fund has been established.
