At the August 20 luncheon of the Rotary Club of East Montgomery County, members heard a heartfelt presentation from Travis Schmidt, founder of The Winterrose Crusade. Created in memory of Winterrose Destiny Wright-Schmidt, the organization was established to raise awareness about domestic violence and offer resources to those affected.
Travis shared Winterrose’s tragic story, highlighting her three-year struggle in an abusive relationship, her courageous attempt to break free, and the tragic events that led to her passing in June 2017. The Winterrose Crusade, founded in January 2022, works to educate young adults about domestic violence and the resources available to escape it.
The organization recently provided Splendora High School seniors with resource bags at their Project Graduation event and hopes to expand their reach to other schools.
Schmidt’s message deeply resonated with attendees, inspiring the club to continue its mission of service and community support.
