The Rotary Club of East Montgomery County recently had the honor of hearing from District 5910 Governor Leon Willhite. With a rich leadership and community service background, Governor Willhite shared his Rotary journey, which began in 1992 when he joined the Rotary Club of Waco. Initially drawn to Rotary to strengthen connections with local leaders, he quickly realized the profound local and global service opportunities.

Governor Willhite spoke about his 30-year commitment to Rotary, highlighting his extensive service, including leadership roles in the Palestine Rotary Club and his dedication to Rotary’s mission through the Polio Plus Society. He emphasized the importance of engaging with Rotary’s global initiatives, drawing from his personal experiences and participating in a National Polio Immunization Day in India.

Leon and his wife, Lynn, are both passionate about service. The couple has been involved in significant humanitarian efforts, including volunteering in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and supporting the fight to eradicate polio.

Governor Willhite’s speech inspired club members to continue their efforts in community service and reinforced Rotary's power to create lasting change. His visit served as a reminder of the incredible impact Rotarians can have by working together to make a difference locally and worldwide.
