East Montgomery County Rotary Club members heard from Fire Chief Carter Johnson at their February 1st meeting. Johnson has served as fire chief for 24 years and informed members of Emergency Services District #6. The Porter Fire Department (ESD #6) was originally established in 1962 as a volunteer department. Located in Southeast Montgomery County on the Highway 59 corridor, it is responsible for the coverage of 52 square miles and is part of a rapidly growing community with over 44,000 residents. The department provides structural fire protection, basic rescue services, water rescue, wildland firefighting, fire prevention, and fire education services. Montgomery County employs over 60 staff members who work in the stations and behind the scenes to serve citizens every day.
