At the September 3rd meeting, Rotary Club of East Montgomery County members enjoyed lunch and fellowship before hearing from Larry Foerster, Chairman of the Montgomery County Historical Commission. Foerster discussed the commission’s role in preserving local history, highlighting its connection to the Texas Historical Commission and the Commissioners Court.
Foerster shared how volunteers work on various preservation projects, including updating a digital Historical Resource survey and restoring historic sites like the Thomas Chapel United Methodist Church in Willis. The commission also manages the county’s historical marker program, helping to illuminate Montgomery County's rich heritage.
The commission is dedicated to preserving the history of Montgomery County for future generations, and Foerster has written two books that outline the county's history. For more information, visit: https://www.montgomerycountyhistoricalcommission.org/
