This quarter, Rotarians of the Rotary Club of East Montgomery County (RCEMC) are focusing on how to support education and literacy. As part of that initiative, fellow Rotarian and New Caney ISD Superintendent Matt Calvert was the guest speaker at the August 2nd RCEMC meeting. Calvert leads 17,300+ students and over 2,400 employees. Students began the 2022-2023 school year on August 8th.

Calvert was named superintendent of schools in April 2021, but has served New Caney ISD since 2015 as deputy superintendent and executive director of finance. He began his educational career in 2004 as a science teacher and coach. He later served as an assistant principal, elementary lead principal, and assistant superintendent of business and financial services before coming to New Caney ISD. Calvert has played an integral role in managing New Caney ISD’s fast enrollment growth and leading the district’s long-term strategic planning and capital improvement processes.

Calvert was also recognized at the meeting as a Paul Harris Fellow. This recognition is for an individual who contributes $1,000 or in whose name that amount is contributed.

RCEMC showed their appreciation for him speaking by donating a children’s book to an elementary school.
